Soo Institution Closes

Antlers Restaurant has announced that it is closing after today. They have been in business for 60 years and they were a favorite of locals and visitors. The Antler's have been owned by the Kinney family since 1948 according to the newspaper.

The announcement came in an advertisement in the Sault Evening News.

The restaurant will be reopening in the future under new management.

This happened so quickly that many people did not get an opportunity to visit for one last time.

Please share with us your memories of Antlers either by commenting here or sending me an email at bbenedict07@gmail.com.

I will post all replies that I receive.

When my wife and I went on our honeymoon we went up to the Soo for a day. We happened to stop at Antlers and had a lunch there. We thought it was very cool with all the stuffed animals and reptiles. We have made it a point to stop there every year with our growing family.
The funniest thing that happened when we were there is when they sounded the horns and bells. At the time we had 2 boys and our middle boy was about 1 1/2, He looked at up us with the what just happened look and started to cry. The waitress came over and promised if they sound the horns and ring the bells they would tell us and we could usher him outside for a couple of minutes. The look on his face was priceless.
We were just up there in the middle of July and there was no mention or thoughts they were closing. It is to bad they closed, With Abners not serving there buffet anymore and Antlers closing I lost two of my favorite places to eat. I guess we will have to find something else.
Talking of Abners what happened to them? Again on our honeymoon we visited Abners and loved the buffet, in the following years the buffet really went down hill until they finally didn't offer it this year. When we found that out we turned around and went someplace else. Thanks for reading the long winded reply, Tom
